Al Tompkins. He is a broadcast/online group leader for The Poynter Institute. He writes Poynter's "Al's Morning Meeting" column. He has 25 years of journalism experience, including news director of WSMV Nashville.

Bobbi Bowman. She works at the American Society of Newspaper Editors to help increase the number of women and minorities in newsrooms. She writes for the Maynard Institute about "covering the new America." She was a reporter and editor at The Washington Post, the Detroit Free Press and USA Today.

Steve Padilla. He is a deputy metro editor at the Los Angeles Times. He has 18 years reporting and editing experience, including managing editor of the Times Valley Edition, which led 1998 Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage.
