Steven A. Smith, who resigned from the Spokesman-Review after a new round of cuts, tells Bob Garfield: "I'm not out to save newspapers. It may not be possible to save newspapers. But it ought to be possible to save journalism. I might end up at another news organization, which will give me a platform to prove my ideas and my theories in practice.
