two editorial cartoonists on staff.
Stuart Carlson, the remaining
cartoonist, says that "given the cutbacks planned at the JS I was told they could no longer 'justify' having a full-time editorial cartoonist. Although I'm taking the buyout, I'm not going willingly. I'm being forced out." He departs on August 15 -- the 25th anniversary of his hiring. ||
Carlson tells Dave Astor: "I'm certainly not the first cartoonist to go like this. But it does hit home when you hear it from your own editor's lips."
