The Herald's news staff doesn't come close to matching the Globe's, but on the sports pages the playing field is nearly level, reports Adam Reilly. The Globe has 20 sportswriters and the Herald has 14, "proof that sports coverage is already seen as key to the paper's survival." Reilly suggests Herald find some way to add seven people to the sports department.
