Poynter's Bob Steele says a publisher sitting on a community board is "dicey territory" because "you have competing loyalties." He adds: "And competing loyalties, if not properly recognized and not professionally and ethically addressed, can create conflicts of interest [that] can corrode the credibility of either organization."
