Chris Harte made that comment during a break at the courthouse Tuesday. He acknowledged that Pioneer Press owner MediaNews Group might seek criminal charges against Par Ridder [left] unless the Strib lets him go. Also during the break, MediaNews CEO Dean Singleton said: "What happened here is unprecedented. It's never happened before in newspapering. And it's wrong. It's just wrong." He added that Avista execs "are not newspaper people." Ex-Knight Ridder publisher Harte said: "I would respectfully disagree."
