Herbert M. (Tippen) Davidson Jr. was a "lifelong champion of betterment of the Daytona Beach area," says his newspaper. When asked recently which of his accomplishments he regarded as most important, he promptly replied, "Keeping The News-Journal a family-operated, local newspaper now and well into the future." Davidson and his family have been fighting with Cox Newspapers over the paper's arts projects and the News-Journal's value.
