Experts say it's impossible to judge the viability of the Eli Broad-Ron Burkle bid for Tribune, which was reported Wednesday, or what the two would do with Tribune's 11 newspapers and 25 TV stations. David Geffen still wants the Los Angeles Times, but believes Tribune may expect too high a price, report James Rainey and Thomas S. Mulligan. They write: "Broad and Geffen's mutual dislike has been well-known in the city's power circles, and that animosity appears to be fueling a competition over The Times."
