Rochester Democrat & Chronicle newsroom union reps say the the addition of a federal mediator to contract talks is a positive step, although it hasn't resulted in progress. (The union at the Gannett paper has been without a contract for 14 years.) "Perhaps the biggest sticking point is over a 401(k) plan," writes Krestia DeGeorge. "The paper won't offer that popular retirement arrangement to anyone represented by the Guild, even though just about everyone else in the building receives it."
