Journalists are the most cynical group you'll ever find when it comes to assessing the intentions of politicians, says Times Union editor Rex Smith. "You will not meet a journalist who doesn't assume that everybody in public office has an ulterior motive, usually assumed to be political gain, behind every statement or action."
