Yahoo! News has launched a beta version of
a new local news site, which is useful for scanning all of the latest headlines in a region.
You can browse most areas around the United States via a map or drop-down menu.
The
site takes a different approach than in the past -- rather than
partnering with local providers and running their full text on Yahoo!
News, the site is now pulling in RSS feeds from multiple providers,
creating a snapshot of all of the local coverage from an area at once.

Topix.net,
another site that lists links to local news. Topix.net scans all of the
headlines and lists them based on what a computer algorithm determines
is the most important or recent, mixing headlines from multiple news
sources together.
Yahoo! News, on the other hand, simply
lists each local news provider's headlines in the order they send them,
and then separates them according to source.
