At
George Mason University, the significance of its moment in college basketball history won't be lost, thanks to a new site created by the
Center for History and New Media. The
George Mason Basketball Digital Memory Bank
attempts to include fans' memories into the story by inviting them to
post their stories, pictures and videos as part of a digital archive.
It's a great idea -- but as of Monday morning, just a couple days after Mason's semifinal loss to Florida in the Final Four
in Indianapolis, barely a dozen fans had taken advantage of being a
lasting part of history. Hopefully, Mason fans will demonstrate a
greater sense of history as they learn more about the site.
Since 1994, the CHNM has created and maintained a wide range of
online history projects ""to promote an inclusive and democratic
understanding of the past as well as a broad historical literacy,"
including the Hurricane Digital Memory Bank and the September 11 Digital Archive.
