The University of Colorado's student newspaper, the Campus Press, was one
of the first campus papers to go online, way back in the mid-1990s.
But it wasn't really a stand-out in terms of being on the bleeding
edge.
(The Campus Press is operated by the School of Journalism
and staffed by students. Also serving the university is the free Colorado Daily, a Boulder
commercial paper that's often perceived as the CU paper.)
Journalism graduate student Justin Crawford is making an
attempt at moving things forward this semester with a project to
install a blogs platform at the CP Web site. The idea is to
invite members of the CU community to blog on the platform he's
setting up. (Eligible bloggers are students, faculty and staff.)
This is a "citizen journalism" initiative. The blogs won't be
edited, though bloggers need to apply to take part, and inappropriate
content will be watched for by Web site staff as well as readers
(reporting inappropriate material). That'll be especially crucial,
since the university is still reeling from several
scandals.
Things are just gearing up, and Crawford has several bloggers
