Connecting Entrepreneurial Journalists

Could resources such as this wiki help make new journalistic ventures happen?
In response to my July 7 post about entrepreneurial journalism and online media, Maurreen Skowran of the Raleigh, N.C. News & Observer commented that perhaps entrepreneurially minded journalists might benefit from having some ways to connect and help each other.

She refined that idea further, and her ideas warrant further discussion. Here's what she wrote:

"Entrepreneurship-interested journalists can be divided into various stages:

  • The ones who have a project up and running are more findable, but are probably immersed in that project. They might have more knowledge but less time to help others.
  • An in-between stage might be journalists who have independent blogs or other smallish sites.
  • Then there are those of us who are interested but not yet ready. We might have enough resources if we worked together -- or there might not be enough of us, and we have no easy way to find each other.

"The hard part would be finding each other and determining whether such a group would have enough interest and commitment. If it did, it could use one or more of these:

  • Cambrian House, essentially an online open business incubator
  • A custom social network, such as Ning
  • A wiki, open or restricted to some degree -- such as Journawiki (which I founded)."

What do you think of Skowran's networking ideas? Got some of your own? Please comment below.
