Watching News on Your Mobile

It's not really news. It's being done elsewhere in the world already, and people have been Tivo-ing their local news for years. But yesterday, the Boston Globe had a good story about local television news becoming available by online feed.

The "hook" was the planned launch next Monday of NECN Anywhere, a version of New England Cable News for download.

"It's a small, incremental additional cost," Charles Kravetz, the network's VP for news and programming, told the Globe.

Steve Safran, director of digital media at New England Cable News, said he did not expect the network to make "a ton of extra advertising money the day we launch it," but added, "I do expect that this is absolutely going to be a vital part of any station's future."
