WFTS-TV in Tampa, Fla., reported the story of how one county jail is slashing food costs. I am certain this story is repeating itself
around the country as food costs rise.
The story says:
Polk inmates who are used to having chocolate milk, coffee, tea, and juice to choose from will have to adapt to a radical change. It's called water.
Sheriff Grady Judd is slashing almost $200,000 from the county jail system's food budget by altering the menu.
In addition to the water-only choice, pb&j sandwiches, fresh eggs, carton milk, and cornbread are gone.
Instead, inmates will get meat sandwiches, frozen egg patties, non-fat dry milk, and crackers. The daily ration of two slices of bread is now down to one.
In Great Britain, the jails are on alert for inmate uprisings because of food costs.
