The (Portland, Ore.) Oregonian zeroed in on an interesting story about how the proliferation of cell phones has cut into criminal activity. It's a lot harder nowadays for people to get away with hit-and-runs, for example, because anyone with a cell phone who sees it can call the police and offer information immediately.
The story points out:
In Washington County, 9-1-1 dispatchers say hit-and-run complaints are now resolved about 30 percent of the time, said Susan Koch, spokeswoman for the Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency.
That's an increase from the pre-cell phone days when she wondered why people bothered to report noninjury hit-and-run cases because so little could be done to solve them.
