For the past 12 months it has toured the world, stopping at venues in 45 countries and drawing more than two million visitors.

On Saturday, the World Press Photo 2006 exhibition came to The Poynter Institute. This is the exhibition's last stop, and until the end of next week, it will live here in St. Petersburg, Fla. The 2007 exhibition kicks off in Oude Kerk, Amsterdam, next month.

The 2006 exhibition features the winners of the 2005 World Press Photo contest -- a set of 205 photos, selected from some 80,000 entries worldwide. Since last March, Kenny Irby, who leads Poynter's photojournalism program, has been working intensively with Maarten Koets, head of eduction for World Press Photo, to bring the exhibition to Poynter. See the exhibition pictures here.

The exhibition, which is co-sponsored by the University of Miami School of Communication and The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, is open to the public weekdays from March 13 to 24, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
